Victory for Meghan Rutledge in Germany

Meghan Rutledge maintained her challenge for the FIM Ladies Motocross World Championship title with victory on her Bud Racing Kawasaki Monster Energy at Teutschenthal in Germany.

The Australian teenager lost significant time to her championship rival in the first half of the opening moto when she encountered one particularly obstructive competitor and, even though she significantly reduced the gap to the leader during the closing stages she had to be content with second place, just two seconds from victory. After a good start in race two she quickly took command of the race to win by twenty-three seconds and secure the overall GP victory. The result leaves Meghan trailing the championship pacesetter by just four points as they head to the final round in the Czech Republic on July 27.

Brazilian Mariana Balbi contested the German round of the series as a guest rider and led the early stages of the opening moto before eventually finishing third. She found the track conditions more difficult in the second moto on Sunday morning after the organisers had heavily watered the track and had to be content with eighth place for fifth overall in the GP.

Kawasaki continues to lead the FIM Manufacturers World Championship and take a twenty-point lead to the final round.

Meghan Rutledge: "Yesterday I tangled with another rider and she made me lose a lot of time; I was annoyed about that but that’s part of racing and I showed today that I was here to win. I got a holeshot today and managed to build a good lead; it was a very nice race. Today the track was more difficult than yesterday; a lot of riders struggled in the muddy spots and many times I had to change my lines when I got amongst the lapped riders. That make the race difficult, but that’s also part of racing ! The championship points difference is the same at the end of the weekend as it was when we came here, so for sure the final round will be interesting !

Mariana Balbi: “It was my first time racing over here in Europe, and I really enjoyed the experience. I like it, and I want to thanks the people who helped me to achieve this dream, Pier Bottero from SEL, Kawasaki Bud Racing and my brother who was my mechanic this weekend. I think that I did a good race; on Saturday the track was dry and I had a better feeling to finish third. Today they watered the track a little too much and I haven’t raced on such a track for two years, so I got arm pump during the second moto. Everything was new for me, the track, the bike, the suspension, but I had a good weekend and I’m happy with fifth overall.”
