The ebullient Frenchman was once again able to show his skills and determination as he forced his way to fifth place before the end of the first lap of the opening moto and continued to charge hard until he reached the third position which he held to the finish of the race. Steven had every prospect of an overall podium finish in the Grand Prix as he again moved quickly into the top ten in the opening stages of race two but a bizarre incident as a rock shattered the lens of his goggles forced him to withdraw from the race. Steven is now sixth in the world championship points standings.
Valentin Teillet, again standing in admirably for the injured Gautier Paulin, made a spectacular start in the opening moto and held a strong third place for five laps before gradually losing places to the series regulars to finish a still commendable ninth, less than a minute behind the winner, against the best riders in the world. A poor getaway sadly spoilt his second race, but the slightly built rider battled all moto to advance from an initial twenty-first to finish seventeenth and secure thirteenth place overall on the day.
Steven Frossard: “I had good speed again this weekend, but once more I could get a good result in one race only. I qualified in sixth and that was OK, as my start was not so good; when you follow another rider here there’s always a lot of stones flying, so I didn’t want to take any risks. My first race was very good with a third position, I was in the top ten at the first corner and made some passes early to get this podium result. My second start was not so good, but I was just behind Cairoli and I think that a fourth or a fifth position was possible but in the second lap a stone shattered my goggles; I got so much dust and mud in the eyes that it was impossible to continue with so many stones on this track.”
Valentin Teillet: “I had a great start in the first moto, and when you are in the top five it’s a different race ! I worked a lot to get such a good start and it was great to ride with the other factory riders even though I had arm pumped after a few laps. The rhythm was intense and I was happy to finish ninth, a result that suits my goals and my speed on a 450. The second race was not so good; I got a bad start and it is not easy to pass on this track; it’s a shame as they have everything to prepare a good track. I want to thanks KRT for their support; they are so professional and dedicated to their riders so it was another great experience.”
