Top-ten gate-picks for Horgmo and Haarup in MX2

Kawasaki youngsters Kevin Horgmo and Mikkel Haarup each earnt top-ten choice of gate for tomorrow’s second round of the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship at Mantova in Italy.

F&H Kawasaki Racing Team’s Kevin Horgmo had his best-ever ride in Qualifying to take the chequered flag third only to be debited five places after a post-race noise check revealed damage to the exhaust from an incident during the hectic early stages of the race.
Kevin Horgmo: “It was another good start and and I was really happy to ride a strong consistent race to get third but we had a problem with the pipe so I was penalised. It’s only Qualifying but I was riding solid and I feel good for tomorrow. I still have a decent start spot in eighth; I got a good start today from sixth so it shouldn’t be a problem. “
Big Van World MTX Kawasaki’s Mikkel Haarup will go the start of both MX2 GP motos next to the Norwegian after finishing ninth in the Qualifying race; the Dane had also started strongly to hold down fifth place at the completion of the opening lap but he spun out in a turn on the unusually slick surface on lap two to lose four places.
Jed Beaton, who races for F&H Kawasaki Racing Team in MXGP, proved that he has adapted well to racing in the premier class with a solid ride to eleventh in Qualifying, while Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP’s Ben Watson earnt fifteenth choice of gate for each of tomorrow’s points-scoring races.
Jed Beaton: “The track is a little different to other years, more hardpack than when we have raced here before, but I had a good feeling straight away this morning. I got a pretty good start and first few laps to move forward to ninth; I dropped a couple of places at the end but eleventh is a good gate-pick for tomorrow. “
The Saturday programme in Italy also featured the opening moto of both the FIM World WMX Women’s Motocross Championship and the FIM European EMX250 Championship. Courtney Duncan started the defence of her WMX title with a third place for Big Van World MTX Kawasaki with Amandine Verstappen fourth for 9MM Energy Drink BUD Racing Kawasaki. In EMX250 BUD Racing’s Quentin Marc Prugnières was impressive all day to confirm the speed he displayed last weekend as he raced to victory in the junior class of the world-famous Le Touquet Beach Race. Third fastest in his practice group the French teenager got closed down at the always hectic first turn to complete the opening lap twenty-third but advanced dramatically to finish eighth, just fifteen seconds behind the winner; he was the only rider in the race to lap below two minutes during the second half of the race. BUD’s new signing Eddie Jay Wade also rode solidly to finish twelfth.
