A ragged start as he touched with a neighbor coming out of the gate and was then tagged from behind at turn one left Romain sixth at the end of the first lap in race one but he was quickly on the move with a series of exhilarating moves through the valley, sweeping into fifth directly in front of the main gallery and using the drifting skills he learnt at an early age to drive under the next two rivals along the start straight on consecutive laps. The front two had already escaped ten seconds down the track but the Kawasaki star displayed outstanding speed to catch and pass for second on the thirteenth of eighteen laps before closing to pressure the race-long leader to the chequered flag. A cleaner getaway in race two saw him third within a few turns and he soon surged to second in front of the gallery to set off after the leader. On lap nine of eighteen his pressure paid dividends as the power and traction of the KX450-SR took the Frenchman ahead on the longest climb on the track to a monumental roar from the massive crowd. His rival maintained his challenge to the finish but the Kawasaki leader withstood the pressure to claim moto and overall victory. After nine of twenty rounds he now leads the individual series standings by forty-seven points, and Kawasaki has moved to the head of the FIM Manufacturers' Championship by twelve points.
Romain Febvre: "I just feel so good on the bike at the moment ! In fact I have felt great all season but coming home to race in France is always very special. I am trying to win every weekend but at home it feels even better and it was fantastic for the public that we stayed lucky with the weather all weekend. I had two good races and it was a really crazy battle both motos. In the first moto I had a bad start but I rode a really strong race to come back to second. In the second moto I was soon second to Lucas; I could get close and I tried many lines to pass but he was riding well; then a new line opened up on the inside coming down the hill and I could make it happen on the following uphill when he slid a little coming out of the turn. I don't usually feel pressure but I have to admit that I did for the rest of that race because I didn't want to disappoint the French public. They are really close through the valley and I could even hear them coming down the hills; it was a great atmosphere. Winning is special anywhere but to win here in France was amazing; thankyou to everyone who came here to support me !"
KRT teammate Pauls Jonass shrugged off the after-effects of recent illness to claim fourteenth overall. The Latvian pushed throughout the first moto to recover from eighteenth on lap one to finish fourteenth, and in race two he again fought bravely from ninth on the opening lap to take the chequered flag thirteenth. He is now twelfth in the championship points standings.
Pauls Jonass: "I knew it was going to be a tough day at the office after being sick all week; particularly the intensity during the first fifteen minutes were difficult. I just didn't feel strong enough on the bike, but I now have a week to recover to be ready 100% for Teutschenthal."
Antti Pyrhönen (KRT team manager): "Today had to be one of the highlights of the entire season for Romain to take victory at his home GP with the red plate. He doesn't let pressure affect him but I know how important it was for him to win here in front of his home crowd. And the way he did it was unbelievable and fully deserved with so much emotion !"
