Khan And Sanchez Podium As Carrasco Still Leads

Spanish rider Ana Carrasco (DS Junior Team Kawasaki) continues to lead the WorldSSP300 championship on her all-new Ninja 400 despite scoring 11th place at the Brno round in the Czech Republic today. Ana was only one second from a podium finish, despite being 11th; such was the ferocity of the battle for a top three finish. Championship challenger Scott Deroue (Motoport Kawasaki) was seventh, and is fourth in the championship standings.

Ninja riders Walid Khan (Nutec Benjan Kawasaki) and Borja Sanchez (ETG Racing Kawasaki) finished second and third respectively today after an intense race at Brno, at the head of a vast group of riders behind the race winner Galang Hendra Pratama.

Third on the grid after Superpole 2, Carrasco and her 37 fellow competitors finally faced only a six-lap race, not the scheduled ten laps, after a red flag was thrown following a two-rider crash on lap seven, leaving Ana stuck in the middle of the pack after a small mistake dropped her from a potential podium position.

Scott Deroue (Motoport Kawasaki) was in the running for the podium places also, as he invariably is, after scoring the second best time in Superpole 2. Even finishing seventh in the shortened race he was within touching distance of another podium. Just over two seconds separated the main competitors from Khan in second place to the rider in 14th!

Donington park podium finisher Dorren Loureiro (DS Junior Team Kawasaki) was 12th today just behind Carrasco, with stand-in rider for the Motoport Kawasaki) team, Tom Toparis, 19th. Tom Edwards (Nutec - Benjan Kawasaki) crashed out on lap one today.

Carrasco leaves Brno with her championship lead almost intact. Ana is 20 points ahead of Sanchez, 21 ahead of Luca Grunwald, and 23 ahead of Deroue. Loureiro is seventh, 32 points from Carrasco.

The next round of the exciting WorldSSP300 tour will take place at Misano, with raceday on the 8th of July.

Ana Carrasco, stated: “I’m a bit upset with the result because I think we could have finished further ahead, even so the weekend has been positive. We’re still leading the championship with almost the same advantage that we came with, so we have to be content. We’ll have to work harder to get back on the podium in the next race at Misano. I want to thank the team for this weekend’s work, and to thank Kawasaki.”

Scott Deroue, stated: “It was really disappointing in today’s race. We were fast all weekend long but because of a red flag, with three laps to go, the race stopped and I ended up 7th. It’s a shame because I was just waiting for the last lap to attack to try for a podium.”
