Jerez Round: SBK Evo and Superstock 1000 Race

In the 2014 Superbike World Championship the class-within-a-class Evo competition, for bikes adhering to the Evo rules, as opposed to the more liberal full SBK regulations, brought a race one success for championship leader David Salom (KRT SBK Evo) and good points scores from some other riders. In the Superstock 1000 FIM race, Lorenzo Savadori (Team Pedercini Kawasaki) was on the podium once again, this time in third place.

SBK Evo Kawasaki Riders
Salom (KRT SBK Evo) had a one up and one down day on his Ninja ZX-10R machine at his home round in Spain, taking the race one win (and ninth place overall) despite successful recent hand surgery on a long-standing injury. A slow fall on lap two of the second race caused no further injury but he could not continue.

With his main championship rival scoring very few points overall Salom extended his championship lead once again in the Evo class, to 41 points.

The first race at Jerez saw three other Kawasaki riders take points on their Evo Ninja ZX-10R machines. Jeremy Guarnoni (MRS Kawasaki) pushed his way to 11th, Alessandro Andreozzi (Team Pedercini Kawasaki) was five seconds behind in 12th and Sheridan Morais (Iron Brain Kawasaki SBK Team) placed 13th.

Bryan Staring (Iron Brain Kawasaki SBK Team) crashed in race one and was a non-starter in racer two. Luca Scassa (Kawasaki Team Pedercini) proved not quite ready to return to competitive action with a leg injury that has still not healed fully and withdrew before the races.

In the second race Morais won a duel with Guarnoni to go 12th and Guarnoni is third in the Evo championship still, now 13 points from second place. Morais is sixth, while second race faller Andreozzi is seventh. Two rounds, at Magny Cours and Losail, remain for the Superbike classes.

Superstock 1000 FIM Cup Race
Lorenzo Savadori (Kawasaki Team Pedercini) finished third after ten laps of the Jerez Superstock 1000 FIM Cup class, which was red-flagged and restarted to its ten-lap conclusion.

With his main championship rival winning the Jerez race Lorenzo dropped to second in the championship table, but is only five points from the lead. With everything to play for in the final round at Magny-Cours in a month’s time Savadori is making preparations for an exciting championship decider at Magny Cours on Sunday 5 October.

In the penultimate round David McFadden (MRS Kawasaki) slotted in seventh in the race and is fifth overall. Romain Lanusse (Team Pedercini Kawasaki) beat local wild card rider Antonio Alarcos (BWG Racing Kawasaki) to ninth place, while Matthieu Lussiana (Kawasaki Team Garnier by Aspi) retired.
