Argentina Calling For WorldSSP Riders

Philipp Öttl and Can Öncü from the Kawasaki Puccetti Racing team are now heading to the Circuito San Juan Villicum in Argentina, to take part in the penultimate round of the 2021 WorldSSP championship between 15-17 October.

This will be the first non-European round to be held since the opening race weekend of the 2020 season in Australia. It will, however, be the third time that the best Supersport riders in the world have faced the challenge of the 4.276km long Villicum circuit in the north west of Argentina.

This race weekend will be a completely new experience for both Kawasaki Puccetti Racing riders, although Philipp has raced at the regular Argentinian MotoGP venue of Termas de Rio Hondo circuit in the past, before joining the Puccetti WorldSSP set-up in 2020.

Having been a force since arriving in the WorldSSP class Öttl has scored 11 podium finishes, including seven this year alone. He is currently fourth in the championship points table, with deep ambitions to move back into third place before the end of the season.

The Villicum circuit will also be a new experience for Öncü as he looks to add a second podium, and even a first race win, to the third place he scored in Race Two at Magny Cours in early September.

Can is currently in tenth place in the championship, in what is his second season in the WorldSSP paddock. He is still only 18 years of age. Öncü was disappointed to finish tenth in the most recent race at Portimao and is out to make amends with two strong rides in Argentina.

After the completion of two full WorldSSP races at Villicum this coming weekend the season is scheduled to finish with another flyaway round, at the all-new Mandalika International Street Circuit in Indonesia. The final round is planned for the weekend of 19-21 November.

Philipp Öttl, stated: “I have only been in the Rio Honda MotoGP track in Argentina, not Villicum. A new week - a new game. I am very motivated to reach a good result to finish the season inside the top three. It will be a whole new experience but we will see.”

Can Öncü, stated: “The team did a great job in Portugal last time and we will try again at this round. I don’t know the track in Argentina but I know it will be better than the final result in Portimao - we will fight for the podium. We will reset our heads and prepare for this new challenge.”

Raffaele De Rosa (Orelac Racing VerdNatura Kawasaki) sits in ninth place, one place ahead of Öncü in the championship rankings, as the championship heads to Argentina this weekend. Raffaele has already scored three podiums this season.

Teenager Jeffrey Buis, the 2020 WorldSSP300 Champion for MTM Kawasaki, has been given the opportunity to race a G.A.P. Motozoo Racing by Puccetti Kawasaki at Villicum, in what will be his first race at this level. He has already taken part in an IDM STK event on a Ninja ZX-6R at his home round at Assen, finishing eighth and ninth.
